Eschew Confusion

00:00 / 8:42

Just as this image attests, it’s easy to confuse your reader.

So what can you do to spot your own confusing parts while self-editing, especially when you give yourself the benefit of the doubt that the reader will surely understand what you’ve written?

This episode references a before-and-after example from the Plain English Campaign and a sentence from Grammarly’s “Confusing Sentences That Actually Make Sense.”

If you’ve come across a particularly egregious sentence of confusion (whether your own or others), consider posting it as a comment.
